The 200 acre Scottish Highland Cattle Ranch is located on fertile ground bordered by both Steele Creek and the Chena River in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Ryan and Delila Schmidt's heritages are rich in ranching and agriculture. Delila's grandparents were one of the first to bring Scottish Highland cattle into Alaska, no doubt realizing the hardiness of the breed would enable the cows to thrive in this harsh environment. Ryan grew up both in eastern Iowa and south central Pennsylvania, two areas heavily influenced by agriculture.
For both of the Schmidts, they dreamed of owning a large parcel of land to own livestock and raise bird dogs. Like many, 2020 changed their lives forever. The two found the property that would become Steele Creek Ranch, and in 2022, they purchased their first Highland calves.
Steele Creek Ranch is dedicated to breeding the best Highland cattle in the state. They utilize their registered bull and artificial insemination to diversify and improve their genetics.
Steele Creek Ranch offers calf sales and beef sales on occasion.
If you decide you want to purchase one (or several!) of the Steele Creek Highlands, or just want to talk to the owners further, you can get in touch by visint the link below ://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083284779855 or tap the button below.
Few breeds have taken off in the last ten years like the Scottish Highland did. Originating from the Scottish Highlands, these cattle are characterized by their long horns, long double coats, and ability to thrive on poor pasture. This makes Highlands well suited to Alaska's harsh environments. This, along with their temperament and adorable aesthetic has made the Scottish Highland a popular choice for cattle producers of all backgrounds. Alaskan Scottish Highlands will continue to exercise a strong presence in Alaska.
